"Research Project" is a quest in NieR and NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139.... It concerns a woman who used to work at the National Weapons Laboratory that tried her best to be a mother to Emil and Halua.

This quest is only available during the second half of the game.

Activation

• Visit Sebastian at the Manor any time after acquiring the Stone Guardian key fragment from the Lost Shrine.
  • Prerequisite: "A Tale of the Study".
  • The player must also leave the Southern Plains after completing "A Tale of the Study" for this quest to appear.

Quest log

• The butler wants you to explore the manor's underground facility in search of a way to restore Emil's body to normal. A clue apparently waits in the second basement floor.
• You've obtained the address of a former researcher, whose residence is located above the entrance to Seafront.
• You found a mysterious letter in the ex-researcher's house. Show it to the butler.
• The mysterious letter was addressed to Emil.
  Emil seemed happy to see it.

Notes

• Fang of the Twins can be found in a crate just before the SA Keycard door in the basement's first floor, if it hasn't already been picked up during Nier's first visit to the lab.
